Good morning. This is the Mobile Oil Change Podcast, and I am your host, Tyreese. Thirteen years running service trucks out of the Philadelphia area, and I spend every morning looking at what's moving in this industry so you do not have to. Today we are talking about the week the refiners had, because it explains exactly why your costs keep climbing and what to do about it.
Here is the headline. This Friday, ExxonMobil told investors that higher refining margins should add about four and a half billion dollars to its third quarter Energy Products earnings, compared to the second quarter. Four and a half billion. Not million. Billion. Diesel prices are hitting record highs, refining margins are surging, and the integrated oil giants are printing money on the downstream side. Exxon reports its full third quarter results on October thirtieth, and the early signal is that the refinery business is having one of its best quarters in years.
Now here is why that matters to you and me. The same week the refiners are celebrating, crude oil touched one hundred ten dollars a barrel. That is the first time crude has been over one hundred ten since May. Attacks around the Strait of Hormuz, renewed Houthi activity in the Red Sea, Washington talking about changing sanctions on Russia, it all piled up this week and pushed prices up. And when crude moves, everything downstream moves with it.
